St. John’s University and the Teaching Financial Education
Project (TFE Inc.) are working together toward a common goal to
improve financial literacy in our nation’s schools by establishing
a National Center for Teaching Financial Literacy. We would like to
welcome you to the pilot stage Web site of the National Center for
Teaching Financial Literacy (NCFTFL), an organization for educators
dedicated to providing programs of excellence for K-16 schools and
colleges nationwide.
Download the overview presentation (PDF).
The Center will be designed to be an expandable resource
to other educational institutions nationwide.
The National Center for Teaching financial Literacy will provide
professional development to teachers and organizations; integrate
financial literacy education into the school curriculum; and serve
as a research institution to study the role of financial literacy
and education programs, and their effects on the development of
lifelong learning behavior of personal financial decisions.
Survey data indicates the problems of systemic dysfunction are
massive when it comes to direction and leadership for the inclusion
of financial literacy into instructional plans. The Center plans to
be working with national groups and their network of partners to
create a model for teaching financial literacy in our nation’s
schools that guides and supports teachers.
St. John’s University and the Teaching Financial Education group
are working to establish the National Center for Teaching Financial
Literacy by formulating alliances with major entities, including
financial institutions, national non-profit organizations,
community-and consumer-based groups, and federal, state and local
agencies to promote financial education and capability.
Roundtable Discussions and NY Financial Literacy Forums have
taken place to engage stakeholders.
