34-Credit M.S.Ed. School Building Leader

These courses can be in any of the following areas: administrative electives; the content core of the initial certificate; a related content area; Special Education; Literacy; TESOL; Gifted and Talented; or in pedagogy courses, as prescribed by New York State for a total of 34 graduate credits.

Administrative Core: (21 credits)

  • EDU 5415 - Introduction to Educational Administration
  • EDU 5418 - Administrative Theory
  • EDU 5471 - Leadership in Instructional Supervision
  • EDU 5650 - School Based Data Analysis
  • EDU 5791 - Legal Aspects & Administration of Schools
  • EDU 5571 - Administrative Leadership

Electives: (3 out of the following 5 courses - 9 credits)

  • EDU 5420 - Politics of Education
  • EDU 5632 - Organization and Administration of Elementary and Secondary Schools
  • EDU 5651 - School Community Relations in Education
  • EDU 5761 - School Based Business Administration for Administrators and Supervisors
  • EDU 5811 - Administration and Supervision of Special Education and Compensatory Reading Programs and No Child Left Behind

Internship: (3 credits)

  • EDU 5950 - School Building Leader Administrative Internship

Qualified applicants must meet the following requirements for admission into the program:

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
  • Normally a 3.0 GPA in the general average and in the major field
  • Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience and/or pupil personnel services
  • New York State Permanent Teaching Certification
