Advanced Certificate In Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), K – 12 Overview A dramatic rise in the number of students entering schools from non-English speaking households has changed the face of the New York Metro area and increased the need for educators adept in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), K - 12. The Advanced Certificate in TESOL prepares holders of initial or professional New York State certification to support English Language Learners (ELLs) from Kindergarten to Grade 12. In order to earn the certificate, students must complete the 15-graduate education courses within the program, pass the New York State Content Specialty Test (CST) in TESOL and possess 12-credits in a foreign language. *Candidates must complete 12-credits in a foreign language before being awarded the Advanced Certificate in TESOLCertification Students satisfying the 12-credits in a foreign language with a minimum grade of C, passing the CST in TESOL and completing the five requisite courses will be eligible for the Advanced Certificate in TESOL. Students can apply through The School of Education for certification endorsement upon completion of the course work.
