EmbarkThe purpose of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction is to prepare teachers for certification in their respective fields, while imparting a values-based philosophy that promotes service, integrity, compassion and diversity.

 

M.S. Ed. Program in Early Childhood Education
Field Change and Career Change Programs in Early Childhood Education lead to the Master of Science Degree in Education and provide opportunities for graduate students to prepare for a teaching career.

M.S. Ed. Program in Childhood Education

M.S. Ed. Early Childhood Education (B-2) and Teaching Students with Disabilities (B-2)
Leads to initial teaching certificates in both Early Childhood Education (B-2) and Teaching Students with Disabilities (B-2)

M.S. Ed. Program in Adolescent Education (7-12)
Master of Science Program available for the following subject areas: Biology, English, Mathematics, Social Studies and Spanish

Middle School Extension Certificate
A six-credit program for individuals currently certified in Adolescent Education (7-12) or Childhood Education (1-6) to extend their certification through grades 5-6 for Adolescent Education and 7-9 for Childhood Education..

Career Change
In response to the need for teachers in elementary, middle and secondary schools, St. John’s University offers a master’s degree program that can qualify you for a full-salaried teaching position within one year, even if you attend part-time.

Certification areas include:

  • Early Childhood Education
  • Early Childhood Education & Teaching Students with Disabilities
  • Childhood Education
  • Childhood and Childhood Special Education
  • Childhood Education and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
  • Adolescent Education Biology, English, Mathematics, Social Studies or Spanish
