Phi Delta Kappa

President's Message - Chapter 161
October, 2009

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to the 2009-2010 academic year!  PDK has a number of professional events aimed to meet the interests of students as well as professional.  We will host most of our events at St. John’s on the Queens Campus, evening as well as Saturday sessions.  Also, the Chapter will be participating in a number of service programs throughout the year.

Phi Delta Kappa International is the premier professional association for educators. For more than 100 years, it has focused its work on the tenets of service, research, and leadership.  Our chapter was established in 1966 and has a membership of over 250 professionals.  PDK’s mission is to support education, particularly public education, as the cornerstone of democracy. Its vision is to be the experts in cultivating great educators for tomorrow while continuing to ensure high-quality education for today.

There is a great deal of information that I would like to convey to the membership and prospective members.  We will be publishing four newsletters and forwarding electronic updates and reminders.  The timeliest method to be notified of events is to join our Facebook group (PDK 161 – St. John’s University, NYC).

I hope to see you at the events throughout the year.

Warm regards,

Mirella I. Avalos-Louie
