Washington, DC Area Alumni Speak with Students

More than 11 alumni, accepted students and their families and representatives of St. John’s University gathered at the Hilton Arlington in Arlington, VA on Thursday, April 23, 2009 for an accepted student enrollment reception. Invited high school seniors were given various perspectives from speakers on the University to aid them in their college choice for the fall.

Admissions representative James Cristiano welcomed guests and introduced Andrea Papa '88SVC, Associate Director of Student Engagement and Regional Programs in the Office of Alumni Relations. Papa provided attendees with an overview of the Alumni Insider’s View program, highlighting the strength of the alumni network in the region.

The evening’s alumni speakers were eagerly attended to by the audience as they shared their own stories and candid advice. Chris Goes '05C, '06G spoke about the Vincentian experience at St. John’s and emphasized how supportive the University was to him, especially during his participation in community service programs.

Laura Cranston, R. Ph. '84P, member of the Board of Governors and Washington, DC Alumni Chapter leader, shared her personal story including details about her trip to Washington, DC with St. John’s. She emphasized to students that getting involved while in college not only gives one social exposure but also helps in building strong connections that can be beneficial throughout life.

Other area alumni also stayed after the formal program was over to answer questions and share insight about the value of a St. John’s education.
