Dr. Seokhee Cho:
The Special Recognition Award 2011~2012 for Grants
was conferred to Dr. Seokhee Cho at the St. John’s University
23rd Annual Grants Reception on April 2nd,
2012.
Each academic year, the Office of Grants and Sponsored Research has
been selecting one or two faculty members who secured new grants or
continuation funding support from external sources during the past
year to further the education, research and public service missions
of St. John’s University since 2001. Eighteen faculty members have
been awarded since 2001. Dr. Seokhee Cho is the third award
recipient from the School of Education after Dr. John Spiridakis in
2002 and Dr. Richard Sinatra in 2008.
Dr. Cho has secured awards afforded through both the US Department
of Education and the Korean Daejeon Metropolitan City Office of
Education. Her competitive research ideas and diligent efforts in
securing grant funds compliment the institutional goals, mission,
and vision of St. John’s University.
Dr. James Campbell:
He was presented this award at this year’s annual Meeting of
A.E.R.A. in Vancouver, Canada.
Name of Award:
American Educational Research Association
International Studies Subgroups
Lifetime Achievement Award.
One
of the most prestigious awards given by AERA and its subgroups
is the Lifetime Achievement Award. The recipient must be a
recognized scholar with a national or international reputation and
must also have provided extensive service to the research
community. Only a few
of these awards are given each year, and many groups within
AERA do not give such awards every year. The candidate must truly
warrant the recognition to get such an award. In most cases the candidate
must have spent years publishing books and articles together and
have had many accepted AERA research papers. These awards are only given
to the leaders who have served as board members, program chairs or
in other executive positions over a long spread in years. In Dr. Campbell’s case he
served in elected executive positions for more than 15 years and
accumulated over 250 publications/grants/research papers, 6 books
and edited 6 theme issues in scholarly journals.
