Overview

St. John’s University has offered a quality degree program in School Administration for the last 75 years. St. John’s has always been committed to excellence, as well as to keeping our programs relevant to the needs of the students. Now, New York State has changed the requirements for building-level and district-level certification. We have redesigned the master’s in Administration to comply with these new state regulations, keeping in mind the technological, cultural, political, social and economic changes that our students face in their school communities.

Permanent Teaching Certification in an Administrator’s Degree
The redesigned degree includes a subject-matter concentration that can qualify teachers for both permanent teaching certification as well as building-level certification. If a teacher already has permanent certification, the program is designed so that there is a concentration on administration and the ability to transfer 15 of these credits towards a doctoral program. The flexibility of this program allows teachers to fulfill their specific needs: whether it is to satisfy the requirements for their permanent certification or to take courses that address the needs of their school district.

Extensive Electives for Those with Permanent Certification
School teachers who have their permanent certification and who seek to advance their careers to the next level of school principal will benefit immensely from the School Building Leader Master’s in Educational Administration degree program.

St. John’s is also committed to being a leader in technology. We now offer one of the first completely online degrees for a Building Leader Master’s and a District-Leader Professional Diploma, recognized by New York State for certification.
