Spring 2008: Faculty members teaching core common courses,
choose the Critcal Thinking and/or the Writing rubric to evaluate a
final assignment.

Important Procedural
Information
- Choose the rubric you wish to use,click
on the links below and follow the directions.
- Evaluate each student in your class one by one; do not submit a
“total class” score.
- Practice using the tool, if you wish; it will not be “live”
until three weeks before the semester ends.
- You do not have to complete evaluations for all students at one
time; you may return to it at a later time.
- The software does not number or ID the rubrics. To keep
track, note which student you have entered.
- Once you hit the “send” button, the information is not
retrievable.
- There is no identification of either students or faculty in the
aggregated data that is collected.
Aggregated course data will be sent to relevant department and
division chairs, both as a total and by student’s year in school,
to be used for discussion of continuing improvement of the core
curriculum.
Rubric online scoring tools may be used
in a variety of ways
- Both of the rubrics may be used to evaluate a specific final
assignment.
- It is also possible for you to “rate” or “score” each student
based on your experience of the student’s achievements of the
objectives in the rubric without using a specific final
assignment.
- If a particular objective in a rubric is not relevant to your
evaluation, do not rate that objective; rate the
others, and they will be counted in the aggregate.

Once you begin to use rubrics, you will find this type of
evaluation does not add significantly to your workload and provides
invaluable information about student learning to you and your
department.
