If it is raining or rain is in the forecast on Commencement day,
graduates and guests should come prepared with appropriate rain
gear. Graduates will receive a poncho; it is advised for guests to
bring ponchos, raincoats and something to cover the lawn
chairs.
In case of extreme or dangerous weather, the
ceremony will be delayed. Please visit www.stjohns.edu home page for the most up to date
information regarding changes to the Commencement ceremony.
Graduates will receive a text message on the University’s text
messaging system if there is a change to the schedule. If you
haven’t already done so, please sign up for the text messaging
service via the University Information
System.
If the ceremony is underway but is interrupted
by severe weather, the ceremony may be abbreviated and graduates
and guests should follow instructions as announced. It is advised
that you prearrange a meeting place with your family and guests in
case the ceremony is cancelled. If Commencement cannot be
held on the Great Lawn due to inclement weather, the ceremony will
be canceled. No indoor facility on campus can accommodate the
graduating class and our guests. Every reasonable effort will be
made to hold Commencement as planned.
