If it is raining or rain is in the forecast on Commencement day,
graduates and guests should come prepared with appropriate rain
gear. Graduates will receive a poncho; it is advised for guests to
bring ponchos, raincoats and something to cover the lawn
chairs.
In case of extreme or dangerous weather, the ceremony will be
delayed. Please visit www.stjohns.edu home
page for the most up to date information regarding changes to the
Commencement ceremony. Graduates will receive a text message on the
University’s text messaging system if there is a change to the
schedule.If you haven’t already done so,please sign up for the text
messaging service via the University Information System.
If the ceremony is underway but is interrupted by severe
weather, the ceremony may be abbreviated and graduates and guests
should follow instructions as announced. It is advised that you
prearrange a meeting place with your family and guests in case the
ceremony is cancelled. If Commencement cannot be held on the
Great Lawn due to inclement weather, the ceremony will be canceled.
No indoor facility on campus can accommodate the graduating class
and thousands of guests. Every reasonable effort will be made to
hold Commencement as planned.
