Excerpts from Mike Repole, Queens Commencement Speaker

Queens Campus, Sunday May 15th, 2011
“I’d like you to remember three lessons in life.  The first one – have fun and enjoy the moment.  Life is a roller coaster.  Having fun and humor makes the ride a lot smoother.”

“This is your moment.  Embrace it.  Look around, feel it.  Enjoy the moment.  There are 25,000 people here that are so proud of you.  Think about how hard it was to get to this stage in your life.  Think about the sacrifices you made.  Think about how proud the people that impacted your life are today.  Be proud.  This is something that nobody can take away from you.”

“I am truly blessed; I am so appreciative, so thankful and so grateful. God is great. The last twenty years I have worked really hard to accomplish my dreams.”
“There is no such thing as guaranteed success, so to that 4.0 student, keep up the hard work. If you are that 2.0 student, never give up. Keep up the hard work. There are no do-over’s in life. There are no makeup exams.  Learn; lean on family friends and faith to help you make these tough decisions.”

“Success is best when shared. I am not good at accepting individual awards, truthfully, I don’t believe in them. I really don’t believe that anybody achieves anything in life alone. If I can take the diploma that I received today and cut it into 10, 000 pieces I would share each a piece with everyone that has impacted my life. I wouldn’t be standing here today if it wasn’t for friends, family and faith.”

“So, in closing, graduating class of 2011, remember the three simple lessons: Have fun, enjoy the ride; think big, dream bigger; and success is best when shared. I wish you and your families all the health and happiness and the greatest of futures.  God bless everyone.”
