The Universidad Catolica Andres Bello’s (UCAB) School of Languages
and Literature, the Instituto de Diseño Darias (IDDAR) and the
Consulate General of Spain have organized a traveling exhibition of
postcards inspired by the Quixote entitled, El Quixote Gráfico:
400 Años del Viaje de Aquella Triste Figura, overseen by
designer Santiago Pol.
Miguel de Cervantes y Saavedra’s heroic character is a beloved
literary icon. Don Quixote’s fantastic adventures have been a
source for academic and cultural research since the first addition
was originally published in 1605. The image of Quixote traveling
throughout the Spanish countryside while doing battle with
windmills has endeared itself to millions of readers in the past
and will continue to do so indefinitely.
This exhibition is comprised of 62 postcards designed by graphic
artists from Venezuela and other parts of the world. Graphic
designer Santiago Pol (Venezuela) and a juried panel conducted the
rigorous selection process. The catalogue design and text was
created by the Instituto de Diseño Darias. The Quijote
Gráfico is homage not only to Cervantes’ monumental literary
masterpiece, but also speaks volumes about the incredible artistic
talents that contemporary designers from around the world have in
their possession.
