Daniel Da Silva “Works on Paper”

In his most recent series “Works on Paper,” artist Daniel Da Silva uses watercolor to study the subtle variations of light reflected upon Manhattan’s urban landscape. Da Sliva’s work captures how light changes the appearance of things throughout the day. Plen air painting inspires his work, which is a particularly challenging technique because he must capture each nuance of light variation as it changes quickly. Da Silva paints the same urban landscape repetitively. However, each piece is a unique work of art, Da Silva states that, “ It is the view that I see everyday but that is constantly changing due to the amount of light reflected off each structure. Time of day, weather conditions and seasons all play a role in its perspective metamorphoses.”

Works on Paper is on display at St. John's University’s Manhattan Campus Mezzanine Art Gallery.

This exhibition is free of charge and accessible to the handicapped.
