Queens, NY (March 21, 2005) – “Many of the works exhibited at this show have been inspired by the Phoenix, queen of birds and a universal, symbol of the arts according to Chinese Mythology,” said Dr. Bernadette Li, Director of The Institute of Asian Studies. “It is exciting to experience an exhibit that so clearly illustrates diversity within the Chinese culture. The participating artists, numbering about 50, are from diverse geographical, cultural, educational, and socio- economic backgrounds.”
Each artist was asked to select one work for the exhibit at the gallery. “Calligraphy and the Painting of Chinese American Women in the Metropolitan Area” also includes oil paintings, water colors and acrylics. Subjects include landscapes such as flowers and birds, still-lives and human figures.
