About the Exhibit

The Department of Fine Arts and the Chung-Cheng Gallery are proud to present the exhibition Art in the Marketplace: Alumni from St. John’s University’s Department of Fine Arts. This exhibition is a celebration of the creative output of a select group of St. John’s alumni who have made significant contributions to the field of professional design in fashion, corporate identity, package design, the web and print media.

From corporate identity to fashion, from package design to the Web, and from Gourmet Magazine to Sports Illustrated, alumni from the Department of Fine Arts have made significant contributions to the field of professional design. We truly see our alumni as contributing members of this department and could think of no better way to show this than to bring their creative work back to campus and through this exhibition make it part of the current dialogue about art and design at St. John’s.

Our hope is that this show will give our current students a sense of the broad applications for a fine arts degree within the world of professional design and that the achievements of our alumni will help students navigate the dynamic and ever expanding connections among art, commerce, and communication.
