Abstract
In October 1922 Hans Ansgar Reinhold, on leave from the Seminary in Innsbruk, Austria, signed on the freighter S.S. Hamburg as assistant purser on a voyage to Java, Indonesia. He kept a journal of his travels for the Benedictine community at Maria Laach in the Rhineland where it remained in the Archives. Bringing the journal to light is a collaborative research effort between Dr. Ann Wintergerst, who translated the text, and Dr. Julia Upton, RSM, Fr. Reinhold’s biographer, who is editing the text.
