Culture and Community: A Study of Caribbean People in Rockland County, New York
Clover Hall, Office of Institutional Research
Abstract
People of Caribbean descent comprise approximately five percent of the population of Rockland County, New York, the smallest county in New York State, outside the five boroughs of New York City. This exploratory case study uses census data, interviews, observations, surveys and archival records to document Caribbean cultural identity and heritage in the county, and to show the role of one community organization in sharing and perpetuating positive aspects of the culture.
