Literature and Work/ Popular Music

Thomas M. Kitts, College of Professional Studies, Division of English and Speech

Abstract: Within the past six months, I published an anthology entitled Literature and Work (Pearson).  The anthology arranges over 50 works (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, drama) under the following sections: “Entering the Work Force,” “Hard Work and Hard Times: The Working Poor,” “The Immigrant Experience,” “Class Struggle and the Dynamics of Power,” “Race, Gender, and the Dynamics of Power,” “Work and Ethics,” and “Work: Fulfillment and Disillusionment.” I wrote overviews for each section, introductions to each work, and study questions. … In addition, as co-editor of Popular Music and Society (an international academic journal published five times annually), I will gladly discuss my role as writer/ editor/ critic, the use for my research and writing in the classroom, and trends in popular music scholarship.
