Abstract
In this study, my co-author and I reported the attitude change of
college students who tutored elementary school students in reading.
College students who were tutors in the America Reads Challenge, a
federal work-study program, at two universities responded to a
questionnaire that assessed attitude toward children tutored as
well as toward social and economic issues. Results indicated that
the tutoring experience seemed to make the participants more
empathetic to the lives of those tutored. Implications for
changing the attitude of college students toward social issues were
presented. An abstract of this study will be available.
