Resources on the Web

  • If you are looking for ideas on learning activities that make use of technology, the Virtual Resource Site for Teaching and Technology offers links to a number of resources.

  •  The University of Washington has a site on Teaching with Technology that provides a host of links to many kinds of resources for both the novice and experience technology user.

  • If you want to have an introduction to new technologies that might be useful to you in teaching and research, the Top Ten Tools for Learning site is a great place to start.  Tech-savvy faculty share their favorites, and you are sure to find something new and interesting on their lists.  That’s where I discovered Picasa, Google’s photo manager.

  • Merlot, the Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching, gives you access to a large number of web-based materials in almost all fields. This is a good way to introduce web materials into your classes without having to develop the materials yourself.

  • Infobits is an online newsletter about teaching and technology that's produced by the University of North Carolina's Center for Instructional Technology. You can read past issues on their website and you can also subscribe to receive an emailed version of the newsletter each month.

  • Two good articles to get you motivated to use technology in your teaching are Techped: Don't Be Left in the E-Dust and Sharing in the Online Community.
