"Publish and Flourish" is the title that the first CTL,
Director, Julia Upton, gave to a workshop on academic
publishing. Since that time, a host of web resources have
become available to support faculty writing efforts. A few are
mentioned here along with some hints on how to be a productive
scholar.
Points to Remember about Academic
Publishing
- Expect it to take longer than you think it will
- Presenting a paper is a good way to get started on an
article
- Have more than one project, but not too many
- Pay attention to the journal's instructions for authors
Get It Written!
- Set aside time to write
- Join a writing group or get a writing buddy
- Keep a journal to trick yourself into writing
- Writing for 15 minutes is better than not writing at all
Editing Tips:
- Don't be afraid to chop
- Edit, and the edit again
- Listen to your inner voice
- Ask someone else to read your work
