PARTNERS is a multi-disciplinary clinical research organization
based at the Department of Psychology at St. John's University in
Flushing, Queens. PARTNERS is founded and directed by Dr. Elissa
Brown, clinical psychologist, researcher and Professor of Clinical
Psychology, national expert in child bereavement and parenting.
PARTNERS stands for "Preventing Adverse Reactions to Negative
Events and Related Stress", and currently is funded by SAMHSA
(NCTSN) and NYS-OMH.
PARTNERS Mission
- Research and provide state-of-the-art evidence-based mental
health services to families and communities with preschoolers,
children, adolescents, who have been through emotional stress and
trauma, such as family violence and disasters.
- Train professionals on the design, evaluation, and provision of
such services.
- PARTNERS fulfills this mission through creatively and
sensitively integrating scientific findings and real world
practice. What we learn is disseminated to the Queens County,
New York State, and beyond.
PARTNERS Vision
- Move evidence-based services into the multicultural,
multiethnic immigrant and native communities of Queens with
families from over 100 countries who speak more than 138
languages—often underserved due to economic and cultural
challenges.
- Collaborate with cultural centers, schools and other
community-based organizations, to develop cultural and community
adaptations to these mental health services and increase the link
between academic and real world settings
- Create an innovative coalition of community leaders, community
members, and academic experts that transforms the face
