Psychology Services and Clinical Studies

In operation since 1986, the University’s Center for Psychological Services and Clinical Studies Center serves as the primary training site for the University's clinical and school psychology graduate students. This state-of-the-art facility has grown significantly in response to the community’s increasing demands for its services, which afford ten private, comfortable, soundproof treatment rooms and a spacious, attractive reception area.

The Center’s clinic receives approximately 6,000 clients per year; services in this year alone have included more than 200 psychological assessments and 350 preliminary screenings. Ongoing treatment has been provided to more than 100 adults, 80 children and approximately 28 families. Services are rendered by doctoral students under the supervision of licensed psychologists. Presently, 75 clinical psychology and 30 school psychology graduate students are in training at the Center, which is supervised by 30 full-time and adjunct faculty members of the University's Department of Psychology.

The Center sponsors a variety of supplementary training activities and programs, including:

  • Monthly Clinical Grand Rounds
  • Continuing education programs for the professional community
  • Specialization certificates in Group Therapy, Marital and Family Therapy, and Basic Neuropsychological Assessment
  • An annual conference for psychologists, educators, social workers and students
  • An annual Community Mental Health Day

The Center also offers a two-year post-graduate training program in marital and family therapy for the professional community.

In all of its activities and services, the Center is particularly compassionate and responsive to the diverse cultural, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds of its clients and trainees. These characteristics are a logical extension of the University's mission, and energized by the Center's location in Bent Hall, on the University's Queens campus.
