I was opened up to the job by my English 1000 professor, Professor
Farley, who spoke very highly of a place called the Writing
Center. It was my second semester at St. John's and I could not yet
imagine myself working on campus, let alone becoming a writing
consultant. But when I found out about the availability of the job,
I was intrigued and jumped at the opportunity to broaden my
horizons. The Writing Center has done just that; it has become one
of the best education decisions I have made to date. What I came to
find at the Writing Center was a world of friendly people with
exceptional writing skills and a drive to help.
Currently, I have been at the Writing Center for a year. It has
been a year of learning experiences that have taught me so much. I
am a
Communications major and am scheduled to graduate in May 2011.
I truly do love to write and I love to communicate even more, hence
my major. Working at the Writing Center has become the perfect
place to utilize these skills. Having sessions with different
people and their various forms of writing has helped me with my
writing skills and dealing with people on a more professional
level. Each person that comes into the Writing Center is an
individual with a unique piece of work, which adds the excitement
of working here. As a consultant, I have gained so much knowledge
from people sharing their ideas and adding to my experiences at the
Writing Center, and I look forward to so much more within my career
here.
