My name is Rory Germain and I am a second year Graduate student
in the English program. I majored in English as an undergraduate at
StJ as well and am President of the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor
Society. My areas of interest include short, creative fiction and
young adult/ children's literature. I am inspired by the works of
authors such as Joan Didion and Junot Diaz, as well as the eclectic
culture of New York City. In addition to the Institute for Writing
Studies, I work at Reade Street Prep, an early education
preparatory school in Manhattan.
I enjoy working at the Writing Center because every day I get to
read papers from different disciplines and learn something new. I
like to question my clients on their writing process - where and
when they write best, how they revise - to get a better sense of
what is important in their writing. Hearing the client's voice in
their work is so essential to a successful piece of writing;
helping a client identify what works for their voice is one of the
most rewarding parts of being a writing consultant.
