Hi, my name is Kimberly Avalos and I am majoring in Journalism
with a future minor in Sociology. I do not aspire to be a reporter
who merely documents events. I hope to study Cultural Reporting and
Criticism, a graduate program that highlights my ideals to escape
ignorance and my overwhelming passion for learning and
comprehension. CRC is a more analytical perspective towards
journalism that tries to find the connection between news and
context, while emphasizing criticism. So in the future, I hope to
find myself working in The New Yorker, Time
magazine, or maybe even as a columnist at the New York
Times.
At the Writing Center, I like to think of
myself as a writer, working with another writer, to make us both
better writers. I view language as a powerful tool, but it is
fueled by the content it symbolizes. Writing is an incredible art
form that allows us to project our thoughts onto paper with words.
And sometimes, we have trouble finding the right words or
strategies to communicate these thoughts. I hope to help bring some
clarity—even if that means talking for an hour brainstorming ideas.
I enjoy listening to everyone who comes in and I hope they leave
with a better grasp of their writing or ideas. It’s definitely
always a learning experience for me.
