My name is Corynna LaFrese and I am a Senior Journalism
Major. I am from Westhampton, New York and lived there my
entire life before moving to Queens to attend St. John’s
University. I enjoy spending time outdoors and involving myself
with sports and working out. I also love to read, write, and listen
to music. I enjoy being in the company of others and talking with
people; however, I also love being able to sit down with my
headphones and write a poem or short story. I have worked at the
writing center for three years and I have greatly enjoyed my time
there. I learn something new with each session and I have
incredibly intelligent, fun, and hard-working co-workers. I
generally approach each of my sessions with an open mind and hope
to help each student as best I can. I let them start by reading the
work they have so far and then engaging in a conversation. This way,
they can talk freely, without the constraints of word length and
sophisticated words. This usually allows them to be able to express
themselves on paper in “their voice.” My philosophy is that each
person who walks through the door, whether on their own or as a
requirement, has the ability to be a writer, and it is our job to
let them find that in themselves.
