Based on a number of IWS professors participating in a faculty
development model, Transforming Teaching through Technology (T3), both the
Queens Writing Center and Staten Island Writing Center have
invested in digital audio recorders and Flip Cams for recording video
and audio of sessions, events, and meetings. Whenever there's
something that seems noteworthy, ask Chris, Tom, or Harry for
access to the cams. They are very small but have great audio and
video quality. To view a video please contact any of the
directors of the Writing Center.
Step One: Turn on the Flip Cam: To do this,
press the little silver button that is on the right side of the
camera. Once you press it the camera should automatically come
on.
Step Two: To Record Video: There is a big red
button in the center of the flip cam. The red button is the record
button. To record: Simply press the red button and it should start
recording. To stop record simply press the same red button once
more.
Step Three: To Review Recorded Video: There is
a little silver button to the left with a little triangle on it,
press that button. By pressing that button the video plays back. To
preview other video simply press the button pointing to the right
of the big red record button.
Step Four: How to Delete a Video: Press the
button with a trash can on it on the video you wish to delete.
Step Five: How to download the software onto your St.
John's computer:
-On the left side of the flip cam should be latch, simply pull
down the latch and the USB should pop out from the body.
- Plug in the usb into your St John's USB port. A message should
pop up asking to download the program, answer yes. The actual
downloading process is rather quick.
- Once the program is installed the videos you recorded should
be in the menu option as 'unsaved'. You should be able to play back
your video.
