Mission
We are here to help all students who wish to become better
writers. We will work closely with those who realize that
becoming a better writer requires planning, effort, and
commitment.
The Writing Centers are for writers at all levels of experience:
ESL, freshmen, honors students, and graduate students alike. We
also work with faculty, staff, and administration. The Writing
Center is not a "remedial center," but a place for all St. John's
University students, regardless of experience or ability.

Both of our Writing Centers serve Distance Learning students.
Like regular face-to-face sessions, consultants help students
become aware of their writing strengths and weaknesses and develop
strategies for becoming effective writers. Instead of "fixing" or
"correcting" papers, consultants offer advice and questions to spur
self-reflection and critical thinking about students' writing, and
they also work to model productive techniques for better planning,
drafting, revising and editing.
If you're a Distance Learning student and would like to get
assistance, click above and register with our online service.
Rather than make a regular appointment, click on the link for an
online session. A form will appear, asking you questions about your
assignment, the sorts of feedback you have received, and specific
concerns you have about your paper. You may also upload a paper,
and one of our consultants will write back to you, typically within
a day during the regular school year.
