Faculty Fellows Program
The WAC Faculty Fellows and Writing Fellows program pairs
faculty from across the disciplines with undergraduate writing
consultants from the STJ Queens Writing Center. These
pairs work together to support student writers in the Faculty
Fellows’ spring undergraduate courses.
Faculty Fellows read and discuss research on the teaching of
writing (including literature from their disciplines) and reflect
on their pedagogy in order to develop ways to utilize writing for
learning and engagement in their courses and to strengthen their
students’ writing. They work with their faculty colleagues in
the program to share resources and methodology, to reflect on their
identities as writers/scholars, and to further enhance their
writing pedagogy.
Writing Fellows might develop workshops for students in the
course, work with their Faculty Fellows on developing writing
assignments, or discuss methods of giving feedback to student
writers. Writing Fellows meet with students in the course in
one-on-one sessions throughout the semester. The Writing
Fellows attend group meetings with the Faculty Fellows both before
and during the spring semester. They also have meetings with
their Writing Fellow colleagues, where they share their
experiences, offer support, and develop ideas for working with
students and with their Faculty Fellows. The pairs collaborate to
develop written job descriptions before their work together
begins.
This program was first implemented in the spring 2010
semester. All of the 2009-2010 Faculty Fellows presented at
the 2010 International Writing Across the Curriculum Conference (http://www.indiana.edu/~wac2010/abstracts.shtml) and
four of the 2009-2010 Writing Fellows and IWS doctoral fellow,
Lauren Williams, presented at the 2010 Northeast Writing Centers
Association Conference.
