The Institute for Writing Studies houses the Writing Across the Curriculum program, which provides support for faculty teaching with writing across the disciplines in all colleges.

The centerpiece of our Writing Across the Curriculum program is the Summer Writing Institute, a two-week retreat where faculty workshop both their writing projects and their planned curricular projects. For the past two summers we have held these retreats on our campus in Rome. In 2009 we will be holding the retreat on our Manhattan campus. In future summers we expect to return to the Rome campus, and eventually utilize our campus in Paris.

Throughout the year, the Director of Writing Across the Curriculum, Anne Ellen Geller, consults one-on-one with faculty members who want to revise writing assignments, reconsider how they offer students written feedback, or rethink a course’s writing expectation. The St. John’s University Writing Across the Curriculum program also hosts lunches, workshops, and informal conversations with colleagues for faculty interested in talking about their students' writing, as well as their own writing.
