St. John’s Professor Honored As
American Chemical Society Fellow
Vijaya L. Korlipara, Ph.D., Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences
and Director of the Institute for Biotechnology at St. John’s
University, has been named a Fellow of the American Chemical
Society (ACS), in recognition of “outstanding achievements in and
contributions to Science, the Profession and the Society.”

Graduates, May 2010
The faculty of the graduate divisions College of Liberal Arts and
Sciences and the College of Pharmacey and Allied Health Professions
congratulate the four students who received their MS in Biological
and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology.
There are from left to right Mansi Parikh, Shalini Shah,
Nagamani Vegesna and Vrishali Zaware. Mansi Parikh is
currently employed at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals.

Students meet with members of the Institute Advisory
Board
Students registered in the MS in Biological and
Pharmaceutical Biotechnology program had a chance to introduce
themselves and mingle with several members of the Advisory Board on
April 5 at their annual meeting. Pictured with the students in the
back row from the left are Dr. Jason Alter of Aueron
Laboratories. Next to him is Dr. John Haley of OSI Pharmaceuticals,
Inc. To the far right on the back row are Dr. Diana Bartelt,
Director of the Institute for Biotechnology, Dr. Mark Sleeman of

Students Attend Internship Presentations
In May, students enrolled in the MS in Biological and
Pharmaceutical Biotechnology program gathered to hear the oral
presentations of three students who had completed their
required Internships in Biotechnology. They were Shalini Shah
and Vrishali Vegesna who worked at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and
Nagamani Vegesna who performed her internship at Nexgenix
Corporation.
