Diana C. Bartelt, Ph.D.
Dr. Bartelt is a native of Queens, NY. She was educated in the
New York City public school system through high school. Dr. Bartelt
received an A.B. degree in Chemistry from Hunter College, and a
Ph.D. in Biology from the City University of New York. She was an
Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at St.
John’s University. Prior to joining the faculty of St. John's, Dr.
Bartelt was a member of the faculty of the Department of
Pharmacology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New
Jersey - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She was the recipient
of a fellowship from l’Institute Nationale de la Sante et de la
Recherche Medicale and collaborated on a research project in France
for one year. Dr. Bartelt has received major funding to support her
research from both public and private sources. She has co-authored
numerous research publications. In 2002, Dr. Bartelt became the
first Director of the St. John’s University Institute for
Biotechnology. The Institute was established to administer degree
programs in Biotechnology offered jointly by St. John’s College of
Liberal Arts and Sciences and the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and has received funding to establish a
Professional Science Masters in Biological and Pharmaceutical
Biotechnology. Dr. Bartelt retired from the faculty of St. John’s
University in December 2010. She continues to serve the Institute
for Biotechnology as an independent contractor and Internship
Coordinator, assisting students in obtaining required Internships
in Biotechnology.
