Before joining the faculty at St. John’s University, Dr. Ward
served as Assistant Commissioner for Training and Organizational
Development at the New York City Department of Correction - the
nation’s largest jail system - where he was the recipient of the
agency’s Distinguished Service Award for Leadership.
Dr. Ward began his criminal justice career as a member of the
New York City Police Department, where he served in the elite
Tactical Patrol Force and in the Detective Division. He has
also held a number of senior executive positions in security
administration and earned a national reputation as an expert on
health care fraud.
Dr. Ward holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees
from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a Doctorate in Public
Administration (D.P.A.) from Nova Southeastern University.
Dr. Ward is the author of War Stories: Behind the Silver and
Gold Shields, published by Looseleaf Law Publications. He is
also the author of numerous articles on criminal justice
administration, and is the co-author of Police Robbery Control, a
monograph published by the National Institute of Law
Enforcement. Dr. Ward is also the recipient of numerous
awards from both the academic and criminal justice communities.
