Message From the
As you are aware, in 1993 the University established the
Vincentian Mission Award in order to recognize the
dedication of the many St. John’s employees – administrators,
faculty and staff – who have embraced the Vincentian spirit which
animates our University in their personal as well as their
Once again, I invite all members of the St. John’s family to
participate in designating this year’s recipient of the award. You
may recall that the award has traditionally been presented at the
annual Vincentian Convocation, which was moved in 2011 from January
to September as a result of the January blizzard in that year. The
Vincentian Convocation will now be regularly scheduled for
September, to coincide with the celebration of the Feast Day of
St. Vincent DePaul. Since the event occurs so
early in the fall semester, nominations will be solicited during
the prior spring semester. Criteria for nominations and a
nomination form are available here.
Previous recipients of the award, listed
here, are ineligible. In addition, the award is generally
intended to be conferred on individuals other than members of the
Vincentians or Daughters of Charity or individuals working in
offices whose primary goal is to advance the University’s
Vincentian mission. Nominations are to be submitted no later
than April 16.
As in the past, final selection of the recipient will be made by a
committee comprised of faculty, staff and administrators, and
chaired by Dr. Dorothy E. Habben, Vice
President and Secretary of the University.
Thank you for your participation in this important activity
which is designed to underscore our institutional commitment to
serve those in need.
Rev. Donald J. Harrington, C.M.
