The Institute for Core Studies was established to enhance
service to our students during their crucial first two years of
undergraduate study. It is composed of faculty and
coordinators with a high degree of spirit, who
are multifaceted, nimble and focused on student
engagement.
The Mission of the Institute for Core Studies is to:
- Increase full time faculty teaching in the Core
- Increase student engagement (quality of education and increase
student satisfaction) through active pedagogy and the
classroom experience
- Key stake holders in Core Curriculum: assessment and
revision
- Leaders in implementation of University Strategic Plan:
Service & Mission
Engagement
The Institute will have a clear and articulated identity that
will embody the spirit and charism of the institution and
Vincentian Community.
The Institute will also explore the creation of a required
non-credit capstone course devoted to a student’s passage out of
the undergraduate years. The course, tentatively titled “Passages”
will have two types of sections, one for students transitioning
into the world of work and one for students transitioning into
graduate study. The course would be taken during the students’
final undergraduate year.
