The OGSR has updated the
Guide to Proposal Submissions (GPS) manual for your use and reference. Please
refer to this manual while coordinating your proposal submission in
unison with our support staff.
The Office of Grants and Sponsored Research (OGSR) is the
Pre-Award (proposal development through award) administration
office providing services for all schools and units at St. John’s
University. The OGSR provides guidance to help faculty and
administration identify appropriate sponsors, interpret guidelines,
develop budgets, and to ensure compliance with University and
sponsor requirements. OGSR is responsible for coordination of
the submission of sponsored project proposals on behalf of the
OGSR works closely with the Office of Business
Affairs regarding post-award items, most importantly the financial
management of sponsored projects. The Office also consults
regularly with the Office of General Counsel, Biosafety, and the
IRB on many items relating to the conduct of a sponsored
project. OGSR also coordinates with the Office of
Institutional Advancement regarding the submission of proposals to
foundations and corporate sponsors.
The Office reports to the Office of the Provost, directly to Dr. Clover Hall, Vice President
of Institutional Research and Academic Planning. OGSR works to
ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, working closely
with the Office of the Provost regarding institutional policy and
procedures for the protection of human subjects, conflict of
interest and misconduct in science, and supporting the University’s
obligations under its Assurance covering the use of animals in
research, along with other requirements imposed by federal, state
and local regulatory agencies.
In addition, OGSR also provides researchers with services specific
to the pre-award process such as Federal update sessions, conducts
training on funding sources and the proposal submission process,
new faculty orientation, coordinates electronic preparation and
submission and administers the University’s Seed Grant/Venture
Capital Fund competition, which is held annually with a proposal
deadlines in the Spring.
This site offers researchers and administrators a convenient and
user friendly way to retrieve information from the OGSR. In
addition, to keep the University Community informed, the OGSR
publishes updates on upcoming deadlines, funding opportunities and
policy and procedural changes in the “What’s New” section in
Faculty tools on St. John’s
