New York State Office of Science: Technology and Academic Research
The New York State Office of Science, Technology and Academic Research, also known as NYSTAR, was established with the goal of making New York the leader in high-technology academic research and economic development. NYSTAR is expected to be a driving force in this effort by undertaking a host of new, unprecedented programs and initiatives. These initiatives will result in the construction of several world-class, state-of-the-art research centers, the modernization of existing research centers and the rapid transfer of technologies from the research lab to the marketplace.

NYSTAR also hopes to help attract the best and brightest scientific talent in the nation to New York's research campuses, to help secure a greater portion of Federal grants for our researchers, to maximize the State's return on its high-tech investments by increasing its royalty and licensing revenues and to coordinate New York's high-tech assets and resources.
Through these programs and other strategic initiatives, NYSTAR will strengthen the formation of university-business partnerships to develop and commercialize the most economically promising technologies of tomorrow. From the commercialization of these technologies will come the creation of new companies and most importantly, a new source of high-quality, high-value jobs.

New York State Center for Advanced Technology: Biotechnology
The Center for Biotechnology was established in 1983 as a cooperative research and development partnership between universities, private industry, and New York State. The purpose of the Center is to provide linkages between the biomedical industry and the academic community for the purpose of fueling economic development within New York State. A principle means of achieving this is through the Center's INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY GRANT (ITG) program which funds innovative, commercially promising, faculty research, alone or in partnership with industry. The goal is to add value to technologies that will facilitate licensing, strategic partnerships, and/or new company formation.
