First-Year Support

Trasitioning to College
The transition from high school to college is an exciting time and signifies a major milestone in your academic career.  You will begin a journey filled with many new and wonderful experiences and along the way, make memories and friends that will last a lifetime.  The University Freshman Center will be right there with you during your first year at St. John’s University.  Let us explain what we do and how we can help you continue on the road to success.

As a freshman, you will have a personal advisor who will guide you along the way and answer all of your questions.  You will never be alone, as students consider the University Freshman Center their “home away from home.”

We know you will have many questions about your major, classes, professors, exams, term papers, extracurricular activities etc. and we are prepared to answer them for you.  Your advisor will be your primary resource for all of the information you will need.  He or she will be your link to the many excellent support services available to you as a member of the St. John’s community.  You can expect for your advisor to be in regular contact with you at various times of the year regarding specific matters related to your academic pursuits.  You may also initiate a meeting or conversation with your advisor as frequently as you wish.

In addition to academic advising, your freshman advisor will discuss with you the large number of extracurricular and co-curricular activities on campus.  Our goal is for you to be engaged both academically and socially and to be an active member in our University community.

We hope that you will decide to attend St. John’s University so we may begin this wonderful journey together.
