Multiphoton Microscopy: a Potential Label-Free Optical
Biopsy Tool for Real-Time Cancer Detection and Diagnosis

Prof. Sushmita Mukherjee
Weill Medical College of Cornell University

Prof. Mukherjee will discuss the potential use of a nonlinear optical imaging technique, namely Multiphoton Microscopy (MPM), in intra-surgical contexts. Specifically, he will discuss how MPM can be utilized to image fresh (unprocessed)  surgical  tissue  –  without  using  any  exogenous  labels  or  contrast  agents  –  to  obtain  images  of diagnostic quality. He will demonstrate how these images compare with traditional histopathology images, which require tissue fixation, sectioning and staining and mounting on glass slides. He will then describe work in progress in the laboratories of some collaborators, who are working to miniaturize the MPM to develop devices that can be used clinically (e.g., during endoscopies or surgeries).

Come join us! Food and drinks will be served.
