Bill/Invoice
A listing of the classes chosen for a semester, and the cost including tuition and fees. Financial Aid is also listed. The balance due is the difference between the cost and the financial aid. Once the bill has been satisfied a program schedule is received. See Schedule.

Bursar
The office where students can pay bills, receive final program schedules, request refunds, and obtain book vouchers. It is located on the second floor of Newman Hall on the Queens Campus and Flynn Hall on the Staten Island Campus.

Deferred Payment
This is a tuition payment plan. Contact the Bursar’s Office for more information.

FAFSA
Free Application for Federal Student Aid. This form determines eligibility for institutional aid and federal aid, (to include but not limited to) student loans and pell grants. The FAFSA also initiates the TAP (Tuition Assistance Program) application, however both forms must be completed. For more information contact the Financial Aid Office in Newman Hall on the Queens Campus and Kelleher Center Rm. 116 on the Staten Island Campus.

Fixed Tuition
This plan provides a fixed rate of tuition over four years for students enrolled in eligible programs. Students with this plan pay more initially, but may save over the long term.

Financial Aid
Financial help (to include loans) for students enrolled in eligible programs.

Endowments
Funds or property donated to an institution, individual or group.

Gift Aid
Financial aid that does not have to be repaid.

Loans
Borrowed money that must be repaid with interest.

  • Perkins - Low interest loan for both undergraduate and graduate students with exceptional financial need. Perkins loans are made through a university’s financial aid office.
  • PLUS Loan - PLUS loans enable parents who do not have an adverse credit history to borrow funds in order to pay the education expense of a dependent child.
  • Private - Loan done through a bank.
  • Subsidized - With this loan a student is not responsible for interest charged before he/she begins repayment or during authorized periods of deferment.
  • Unsubsidized - With this loan, interest is charged before a student begins repayment.

Pell
Grant given by the Federal Government.

Supplemental EducationalOpportunity Grand (SEOG)
Gift aid for undergraduates with exceptional financial need.  This is funded by the Federal Government.

Scholarships
A grant of financial aid to a student who has met certain criteria in any of a number of areas such as academic excellence and service.

A payment plan through which students pay off their tuition during the course of an academic year.

Work Study
Work study provides part-time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses.
