Gerard Fabian Cajas currently serves as a member of the University Freshman Center advising team and as Associate Director of the Academic Achievement Program that services Liberal Study Freshmen Students enrolled in the College of Professional Studies. He has fifteen years of experience as a student advisor.
Gerard graduated from St. John’s University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a minor in Sociology and Theology While pursuing his undergraduate degree, he served as one of the first group of mentors for the College Bound: Liberty Partnership Program at St. John’s that today serves over 300 junior high and high school students. The program focuses on providing these students with both academic and personal support.
Upon graduating, Gerard spent one year with the Vincentian Community, as a Vincentian Service Corp volunteer in the poor Latino community of West Kensington-Philadelphia, PA. After his year of service, Gerard returned to New York to work among the homeless population of New York City. He was then offered the opportunity to return to St. John’s University, in the capacity of student advisor for the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP). Since then, Gerard has sat on various student committee organizations.
In May of 2009 Gerard successfully finished and received his Master’s degree in Sociology. His goal is to teach college students, while still continuing his role as a student advisor.
