In addition to its evaluation and treatment
services, the Center provides counseling for parents, including
instruction on stimulating speech and language in the home. The
staff members also serve as advocates for the speech-language
or hearing impaired child, working as the liaison between parents
and the school to advise on the most effective placement of the
child based on his/her special needs. Additionally, the Center
provides screening services to the community-at-large on a
scheduled basis. The staff visits schools, daycare centers, nursing
homes, and libraries to provide hearing and speech screening and
education.
The Center as a Teaching and Educational Facility Graduate and
undergraduate students work under the direct supervision of staff
and faculty clinicians. Every evaluation is done by a licensed and
certified speech-language pathologist or audiologist. Treatment is
then provided by students under the direct supervision of the
professional staff.
