Important Information:

  • Project CONNECT is a research program, so families will be randomly assigned to begin treatment right away or placed on a wait-list for 6 months. Families will have an equal chance of assignment to either group.
  • Project CONNECT staff members are mandated reporters by law, just like teachers and physicians. For this reason, we are required to report any suspected maltreatment to the New York State Central Register (SCR) of Child Abuse and Maltreatment, also known as the Child Abuse Hotline. When working with families, we will discuss what happens when a report is made and also how Project CONNECT can help.
  • For families experiencing domestic violence, we only can work with families that have established protective actions for safety (such as taking an order of protection, leaving the batterer, etc.).
o    If a family experiencing domestic violence has not established safety, we are unable to provide treatment until they are referred to an agency that can help them such as the Queens Family Justice Center.  After safety has been established, the family would be eligible for Project CONNECT Services.
