Beryl Filton is research assistant for PARTNERS
Continuum-of-Care Program, coordinating the project in both
day-treatment in inpatient units at Queens Children’s Psychiatric
Center. Ms. Filton conducts assessments and administrative
coordination while working on comparing trauma-focused CBT with
treatment-as-usual in a children’s state hospital. Ms. Filton
received her BA from New York University where she graduated magna
cum laude with a double major in psychology and gender and
sexuality studies. At NYU, Ms. Filton was an Honors Scholar
and received a Lawrence Erlbaum Book Award for Distinguished Honors
Thesis. As an undergraduate, Ms. Filton participated in a
variety of research projects including studies examining the
effects of temporal distance on social conflicts as well as the
efficacy of a new non-pharmacological treatment for ADHD.
While at NYU, Beryl became extremely interested in the intersection
of psychology with gender and sexuality. She is presently
pursuing her PhD at St. John’s University. For her masters,
Ms. Filton is examining how a variety of treatment components may
predict outcome in a population of juvenile sex offenders.
For her dissertation, Ms. Filton hopes to examine the relationship
between personality and risky sexual behavior in a sample of
undergraduate women. Ms. Filton is interested in working with
families and exploring research issues specific to women’s physical
and mental health.
