PARTNERS truly lives up to its name and I was fortunate to partner
with several families to help them cope with traumatic events that
affected their lives. PARTNERS aims to reduce physical and other
barriers to trauma treatment, such as transportation and access to
treatment, and cultural stigma against mental health treatment. As
a result, I benefited as a clinician from the opportunity to work
with varied families, including families in the PARTNERS clinic and
in a community hospital, children ranging from 5 to 16 years old,
families from diverse backgrounds, and families who experienced
different traumatic events, including neglect, sexual abuse and
traumatic death of a family member.
I felt confident in the treatment I engaged in with my clients
because of the trauma-informed, evidence-based treatment approach,
the sensitivity to cultural variables, and the support of the
PARTNERS team members who are always willing to go the extra mile
to help each other provide the best care for families.
PARTNERS builds on children’s and families’ existing strengths and
helps them develop new coping strategies, and I was amazed and
inspired by the resiliency of the families we served. Given the
high rates of child trauma, the PARTNERS is truly a community gem
for its commitment to increasing knowledge about best practices in
trauma treatment and providing quality services for those who need
it most.
