Homero Aridjis
Renowned Mexican poet, novelist, environmentalist, former President of PEN International
One of the world’s foremost literary figures and Mexico’s greatest living poet, Homero Aridjis is the author of numerous books of poetry and prose, including El ojo de la ballena, la zona del silencio, el hombre que amaba el sol, Sicarios, Los invisibles, Los poemas solares, and Diario de sueños. His work has been translated into over a dozen languages. He has been the recipient of many prestigious literary awards and distinctions, including the Diana-Novedades Literary Prize for Memorias del Nuevo Mundo, the Grinzane Cavour Prize for his novel 1942: The Life and Times of Juan Cabezón of Castille, the Prix Roger Caillois in 1997, the John Hay Award from the Orion Society in 2000, the Smederevo Golden Key for Poetry in Serbia in 2002 , the First Erendira State Prize for the Arts, in Michoacan, Mexico in 2005. As an environmentalist, he has received many awards, including the International Environmental Leadership Award from the UN, and the Latin Trade Magazine’s Environmentalist of the year. Aridjis has served as Mexico’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Switzerland and to UNESCO. From 1997 to 2000, he served as president of International PEN, the world wide association of writers. Homero Aridjis will be reading from Tiempo de Angeles/ A Time of Angels.
