Dr. Yu is a nationally certified speech-language pathologist.  Prior to joining the faculty at St. John’s University in 2015, she was an assistant professor at William Paterson University of New Jersey and a lecturer at Hubei Institute of Science and Technology in China. Dr. Yu’s clinical expertise is in bilingual child speech and language development, and atypical language development including autism spectrum disorders and specific language impairment.

Dr. Yu’s research focuses on the neurophysiological basis of language processing. She uses both behavioral and neurophysiological method to examine the neural indices of language processing in bilingual children, and also children with atypical language development such as autism spectrum disorders. Her new line of research includes using transcranial direct current stimulation to examine brain plasticity for language.
