Syed K. Islam, Ph.D.
Dr. Islam comes to St. John’s University as an Assistant Professor in the Chemistry department. He received his Ph.D. in chemistry (nanotechnology) from City University of New York. He also has a B.A. in biochemistry from New York University. Dr. Islam’s graduate research focused on developing different metal and semiconductor plasmonic substrates to study their optoelectronic properties using Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS). Future investigations will concentrate on developing advanced analytical methods using SERS for the evaluation of synthetic drugs in forensic science and for the analysis of molecular dyes found in ancient artifacts.
